We have a heartbeat!!!

This morning we went to the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit for a reassurance scan and are absolutely thrilled to say that we could see baby's heart beat! The sonographer let us listen to it for a few seconds and it was just magical. Little baby measures about 8 weeks big, so perfect size for our dates as I am 7 weeks and 5 days pregnant today. Baby is also in the right spot so definitely no ectopic pregnancy. I am so incredibly relieved and thrilled!!

Above is a pic of little baby - not much to see really other than a blob!

7 weeks pregnant

On Saturday we were 7 weeks pregnant - feels really great to be more than half way to that magic 12 week mark. I spoke to the early pregnancy assessment unit today and they have said that I can come in for an early scan later this week - unfortunately they can't offer me an appointment and so it just means a morning of waiting around but well worth it if we get to see bubs! I've also been sent the dates of my first appointments - 20th October for my first midwife appointment where they will do zillions of blood screening tests and then 28th October for my 12 week scan. Receiving those letters was just so great and really did make it feel so real. I haven't been feeling too bad - lots of peeing, sore boobs, tiredness - just the usual pregnancy symptoms! I have been feeling faintly nauseous but not bad at all - am trying to be positive and think I am just one of the lucky ones rather than that something is wrong. Will hopefully be posting with good news on Friday once we've had the scan.

First doctor's appointment

Today we had a doctors appointment to confirm the pregnancy. The appointments were running 30 minutes behind schedule and so my appointment was completely rushed. The doctor filled out my materntiy exemption form (giving me free prescription and free dentists for the next two years) and my antenatal form which will be sent off to my local hospital and I will be contacted for my first antenatal appointment, probably when I am about 10 weeks pregnant. He also confirmed my due date as the 9th May, and then gave me the usual advice: No smoking, no alcohol, no drugs (!), take folic acid etc etc. I am meant to be going on a business trip to Germany in October for 4 days, I will be approx 9 weeks pregnant, I asked him whether he thinks I should go and he just said that there is no evidence that flying causes miscarriage and I could miscarry there or I could miscarry at home. Such awesome advice!! Happy happy days if the doctor says I'm pregnant, it really must be true!!!
